Code of Conduct

Volleyball is played for enjoyment, health & social reasons.This code of conduct is a guide to the manner of behaviour expected from all participants. It is intended to assist everyone to obtain maximum benefit and enjoyment from their involvement in Volleyball.

Administrator’s Code of Conduct

  1. Provide a safe playing environment for all players, officials and spectators.
  2. Give all people an equal opportunity to participate.
  3. Ensure that the rules, equipment and length of games are appropriate to the age, ability and maturity level of players.
  4. To encourage all participants to follow the Code of Conduct. The codes of conduct are displayed on the website, the competition notice board and available on request from the competition manager.
  5. To promote a better knowledge and understanding of the rules by all participants.
  6. Help improve the standards of coaching and officiating.
  7. Set a positive example by your behaviour and comments.
  8. Make it clear that abusing people in any way is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.
  9. Create pathways for people to participate and develop through the sport, not just as players but also as coaches, referees and administrators.
  10. Remember that Volleyball is for fun.
  11. Show respect to all players, officials and spectators.

Coaches Code of Conduct

  1. Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of coaching principles and methods appropriate to the level of your team. Be reasonable in your demands of players.
  2. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the rules and develop this within your team.
  3. Keep your knowledge current.
  4. Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.
  5. You should be a positive role model for your players when dealing with officials. Your behaviour needs to demonstrate a respect for officials and an acceptance of their judgment.
  6. Encourage your team to show respect towards your opponents including their coaches.
  7. Be a good sport, control your temper and accept loss in a dignified manner.
  8. Encourage children to always play by the rules.
  9. Teach children that giving their best effort while playing is more important than achieving a victory. Focus on the importance of the development of skills and playing the game in a sportsmanlike manner.
  10. Promote desirable personal and social behaviours.
  11. Group players according to age, height, skills and physical maturity, whenever possible. Give all players a reasonable amount of court time.
  12. Act responsibly when players are ill or injured.
  13. Avoid inappropriate physical contact or personal relationships with players.

Parent’s Code of Conduct

  1. Encourage your children to participate for their own interest and enjoyment, not yours.
  2. Encourage children to always play by the rules.
  3. Teach children that giving their best effort while playing is more important than achieving a victory.
  4. Focus on the importance of the development of skills and playing the game in a sportsmanlike manner.
  5. Do not criticize any child in front of others.
  6. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
  7. Your behaviour must always demonstrate a respect for officials and an acceptance of their judgment.
  8. Set a good example by your own conduct, behaviour and appearance.
  9. A child learns best by example. Applaud good play by all teams.
  10. Keep children in your care under control.
  11. Remember that Volleyball is played for enjoyment.
  12. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person.
  13. Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided.

Player’s Code of Conduct

  1. Understand and play by the rules.
  2. Listen to the advice of your coach and try to apply it at practice and in games.
  3. Show respect to all players, officials and spectators.
  4. Your behaviour must always demonstrate respect for officials and an acceptance of their judgment.
  5. Remember that giving your best effort while playing is more important than achieving a victory.
  6. Be a good sport, control your temper and accept loss with dignity.
  7. Understand that the safety and welfare of the players/participants is more important that the result.
  8. Always attempt to be a positive contributor towards your team’s performance.
  9. Remember that Volleyball is played for enjoyment.
  10. Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided.

Referee’s Code of Conduct

  1. It is the umpire’s responsibility to ensure the court is suitable for play.
  2. The safety and welfare of all players / participants must be placed above all else.
  3. Demonstrate a sound understanding of the rules of volleyball.
  4. The umpire must behave and look professional at all times. The correct and appropriate hand signals used, scoresheets completed and the uniform neatly worn.
  5. Must be impartial at all times and avoid any situation that may lead to a conflict of interest.
  6. The umpire must be punctual at all times.
  7. Remember that Volleyball is played for enjoyment.
  8. Show respect to all players, officials and spectators.
  9. Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided.

Spectator’s Code of Conduct

  1. Show respect to all players, officials and spectators.
  2. Accept decisions of all referees as being fair and called to the best of their ability.
  3. Encourage players to obey the rules and to accept decisions of officials.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour at all times. Do not use foul language, abuse or harass players, coaches or officials.
  5. Applaud good play by all teams.
  6. Always be positive in your support for players.
  7. Condemn the use of violence in any form.
  8. Keep all children in your care under control.
  9. Remember that most people play sport for enjoyment.
  10. Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided.
